All quiet on the home front

There has not been a hellva lot happening with the Crackas of late and accordingly there is very little to tell and even less to blog about. There are however some exciting events which we are looking forward to eagerly namely:

1) The birth of Baby Frost which is scheduled to occur this week ,
2) The Cracka Christmas bunch patsy at Best’s house, and
3) The farewells for the Crackas who are leaving us and are not available next season :o(

It is a bit of a disaster actually, we are losing 3 defenders, a forward and potentially 2 midfielders. It may sound clichéd but we are all such great friends that it is always a bit miffers when a Cracka moves on. Hopefully we will get some great new peeps for the 2007 season!

Applicants for the above positions are to please apply in writing to … (heh heh)

The engagement party

We had Jules and Jumbo's engagement party on Saturday evening. A few of the Crackas were missing in action but the representatives present had a good time nonetheless. John is heading off to the soggy island of cucumber sarmies and pots of tea shortly so 'Mi Julie' is coming to live with us for a month or so before she joins him. The excitement is enormous!

Wanderers annual dinner

It’s taken the better part of a week and a weekend but I can finally say that I have recovered from the year end dinner. You know you have been out of varsity for too long when you replace the phrase “I am never drinking so much again” with “shoo, I just can’t drink the way I used to!!” Is it just me or do hangovers get worse the older you become??

The evening began with some dignified pre-drinks at Moyo in Melrose Arch where we accosted some unsuspecting waitress and requested that she adorn us with the traditional Moyo face paint.

Thereafter we sauntered over to the Wanderers Club, our venue for the evening’s shenanigans. Looking back, I think the downhill slide from sobriety began upon entrance with the free sherries which were being handed out.

The awards for the evening went as follows:
Player of the season (for the second year running) - Julz
Most improved player - Pips
Top goal scorer – Schmeezy
Yellow jersey - Marshy

I’m sure that the reason that I lost my certificate during the course of the evening must be attributed to bad karma … serve me right for fibbing about the goals :o)

Apart from this, recollections of the evening include champers from Alli to celebrate the engagement of Jules and Jumbo (nice one Al), ordering a bottle of gin and a case of dry lemons and then promptly returning them when we saw that a bottle of gin was R255, the Mens’ 1st team collecting the “Team of the Year award” and, of course, some serious consumption of alcohol.

Recollections which surfaced the following morning included me doing the splits on the dance floor in my “pantoffels”, Megs endorsing some criminal activities, young Hughsy being left to fend for herself in the wee hours of the morn and a seriously dodgy, yet somewhat entertaining, trip home with our chauffeur who clearly has yet to master the art of clutch control.

Enough said – here are the photos:

And then there were two ...

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S

to Jules and Jumbo who got engaged while they were in Plett. Much excitement all around, now the Crackas have 2 weddings to look forward to!

The competition hots up

With just 75 hours to go until the Wanderers Annual Hockey Dinner, the competition for the coverted "Team of the Year" just got hotter. Breaking news is that the competition have staged a desperate late minute attempt ... could it be a case of too little, too late?

We shall see ...

Especially for Best

August club night

There is really only one word which can describe what went down last Thursday evening and "T A T T Y" would be it!

The Crackas decided that a fines meeting was long overdue and accordingly scheduled one to coincide with the penultimate club night of the season. The theme for the fines meeting was back to school and the general behaviour of the team would have most definitely resulted in detention for all!

Mention must be made of the PDM team who narrowly nipped the MBA side in the boat race and for Spider's rousing rendition of "we've got the best defender in the world". Thanks also to Granny Stockles and the little Mouse for their repeated chant of "show us your ..." the whole evening.

When we eventually made it up to the Main Club, the girls took no prisoners on the dance floor and busted out some moves MTV hasn't even seen. Yip there was some sirrious ass shaking going down.

All in all, an excellent evening with the Crackas proving (yet again) they are definite contenders for the coveted "Team of the Year" award!!

PS - if anyone found a lonely beret and a right shoe, please could they return it to TATTY Collier who, for the record, took the yellow jersey last weekend.

May club night

The Crackas' theme for May club night was Western and the girls did a splendid job in proving to the general public why a cowgal is so much more appealing than anything Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal could put together!
